History
Houk sun meaning - the curry of sun dried vegetables. This is the traditional recipe from the valley of Kashmir.
This recipe was used till 1960's but after this year the construction of Jawahar Tunnel led to decrease in use of this method.
Previously during winters there used to be heavy snowfall leading to blockage of the roads making it almost impossible to travel inside the valley and transport fresh vegetables.
So our ancestors found a way to survive in this extreme weather conditions by drying the veggies in the sun and preserving them for the winters .
In this recipe the main ingredient is masala tikki known as "VAAER" in Kashmir . This vaeer not only reflects the essence of Kashmiri cuisine aroma but also keeps the body warm .
The mostly used dried vegetables are dried brinjal ,dried bottle gourd, dried tomato, dried turnip, dried jungle herbs and dried spinach.
